Member-only story
Someone brought up your name yesterday
Somewhere out of the blue
A sadness, an apparition
A conjuring? Of the ghost of you
Somehow it took all the air from the room
Took all the breath from my lungs
I could feel your warmth wrap around me
I could taste you on my tongue
That rip in reality quickly closed
I could breathe again
You didn’t linger — you were gone
And I am still ok within
Somehow I knew I would see you soon
These last couple days or so
I wasn’t surprised to see you drive by
I waved and I let you go
You looked like my farm boy, you didn’t see me
Was your pleasant mask firmly in place?
For just a brief moment we were side by side
Then gone — only empty space
Something in the orange tells me dear
That you still think about me all the time
I didn’t text, but I wrote you this poem
I’ll still be here
If ever you change your mind
